Hip hop star launches own technology range at Consumer Electronics Show

Pioneering rapper and producer Dr Dre promises gadgets with attitude

We're well used to singers and celebrities launching their own fashion ranges and perfumes, but rap mogul Dr Dre (founder member of rappers NWA and arguably responsible for launching the careers of Eminem and 50 Cent) is literally going - in the words of Spinal tap - 'one louder' with his own range of technology - as reported by NME.

Dre's range kicks off with a set of headphones designed by the rap icon. The 'phones, called 'Beats by Dre', are described as 'bass intensive' and are the result of the musician teaming up with another industry heavyweight, Jimmy Lovine, the Chairman of Universal/Interscope A&M.

If you want to add some 'bling' to your 'crib' you'll need to splash out somewhere in the region of $400 for the Dre headphones, with more products - aimed at both the home and car markets - in the pipeline, claim the pair.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Dre is quoted as saying: "In 10 years, I want to look back and remember this moment when it was just headphones, because it's going to include speakers and surround-sound systems, car systems, everything..."

No chance we'll, in his own words, 'forget about Dre' now, is there?
